About Us

Royal Paving is a mid-sized Nanaimo based asphalt paving contractor serving Central Vancouver Island since 1990. Providing residential, commercial, municipal and industrial asphalt paving, we also became one of the first StreetPrint stamped asphalt applicators in the world in 1994 (there are now over 850 applicators worldwide). Since then, we have lent our expertise to projects in BC, Alberta, Nevada, Arizona and California. Now we are continuing our reputation for innovation, and doing our part for the environment, with our latest option; Portable On-Site Asphalt Recycling. With this technology, new to Canada, we can provide the service throughout BC’s Coastal communities, plus we are dealers for sales of the Bagela recyclers.
Jeff and Don

History

Don Howell and Jeff McDonald met in the Alberta oilfields in the mid ‘80s as employees of Schlumberger of Canada. Don, an Engineer, and Jeff, a Senior Operator who had previously been in paving since the age of seventeen, saw an opportunity in supplying paving services to the burgeoning communities of northern Alberta. Don’s engineering background worked hand in hand with Jeff’s asphalt knowledge and they formed a partnership in 1988. Longer paving seasons and a building boom here, helped them with their decision to relocate Royal Paving to Vancouver Island in 1990. They have been well-known residents serving and re-serving loyal Nanaimo and area customers ever since.
